PRIMARY + SECONDARY LOGOs
The Lilac Press is helping women solve the age-old problem of having nothing to wear by sharing consistent and relatable fashion advice + beauty inspiration. The Lilac Press needs a brand image that captures this sense of everyday inspiration but also stands out from the crowd. I created a brand image that is friendly in nature, but at the same time evokes a higher-end, sophisticated feel.
The friendly and fun nature will relate to a younger audience; one that is navigating through new chapters of life. The friendly nature is achieved through the use of the "lilac" script + subtle lilac imagery. The "lilac" script was hand-lettered to create a whimsical energy, but it's cleaned up enough to feel professional. The lilac icon is a geometric representation of a lilac flower – keeping the story aspect behind the brand but offering a bit of intrigue.
The secondary logo and monograms allow for diversity within the brand to be used throughout various brand components — whether as just the "L+P" letters, as a stylized "L", or as fun detailing.
Overall, the primary and secondary logos convey a sophisticated and fresh feel with a nod to the everyday, down-to-earth fashion advice the target audience is expecting from the brand.
The friendly yet sophisticated vibe comes to life through the use of typography. The "lilac" script was hand-lettered to create a whimsical energy, but it's cleaned up enough to feel professional. A sans serif typeface paired with the custom script, creates a soft yet bold look. The paired body copy serif brings in even more of a professional and established feel, while still keeping the brand upbeat and modern.
The color palette is made up of a deep reddish purple, cream and a rose quartz accent color.
Photography, graphic elements and patterns are a unique opportunity to channel a brand's essence into something that will take the identity to the next level. Through this application, you can envision how the color, type, photography and logo all come together as a cohesive brand. These images are only mockups to help you imagine the brand in context.
The patterns allow for exciting textures – whether on printed pieces or web related items. The patterns can be used as an extra detail to simply make readers smile.
Contrast in web elements is created through white elements on top of colored backgrounds rather through strict black vs. whites. Warmer, contrasted photography pairs well with this cooler, calm color palette.
Overall, the brand identity reflects a friendly, sophisticated and fresh feel that women can expect and look forward to when reading and subscribing to The Lilac Press.
